چکیده
Major development projects along rivers, like reservoirs and other hydraulic structures, have changed not only river discharges but also sediment transport. Thus, changes in planforms can be observed such rivers. In addition, centerline migrations witnessed. The Mahaweli River is the longest Sri Lanka, having largest catchment area among 103 major basins country. has been subjected to many over last 50 years, causing significant discharge However, no research carried out evaluate temporal spatial planforms. current seeks qualitatively analyze planform of Lower (downstream Damanewewa) past 30 years (from 1991 2021) identify features their spatiotemporal lower River. Analyzing rivers requires long-term data with high resolution. Therefore, this research, remotely sensed Landsat satellite were used a considerably resolution (30 m). These images processed analyzed using QGIS mapping tool semi-automated digitizing tool. results show that occurred mainly most downstream sections selected segment. Further, curvature was comparatively river. An oxbow lake formation time part after 2011. Centerline migration rates calculated generated centerlines. It found generally than about m per year, except for at locations where meandering observed. main limitations study possible misclassifications due obstructions caused by cloud cover images. To achieve more accurate estimates, could developed further quantitative mathematical analysis considering dynamics

Variability of Soil Moisture in the Walawe River Basin: A Case Study in Sri Lanka Using Low-Resolution Satellite Data
Limited availability of freshwater and increasing demand for food require careful management of available resources. However, information on water utilization within river basins is often inadequate for comprehensive water management. Therefore, researchers are developing new tools and methodologies to overcome these data problems. A major concern for land use planning is the identification of ...
متن کاملEl Niño–southern Oscillation Influences on the Mahaweli Streamflow in Sri Lanka
Despite advances over the last two decades in the capacity to predict the evolution of the El Niño–southern oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon and advances in understanding of the relationship between ENSO and climate, there has been little use of climate predictions for water resources management in the tropics. As part of an effort to develop such a prediction scheme, the ENSO influences on stream...
متن کاملPlanform channel dynamics of the lower Colorado River: 1976–2000
In the past two decades, major flood events have occurred on the lower Colorado River, a dramatic shift from the low flows and moderate floods associated with prior decades of river regulation. This study uses repeat aerial photography and Geographic Information System analysis to examine the planform channel response of the upper Colorado River delta (limitrophe reach) to this recently altered...

Water is one of most important human needs for life. According to importance of subject, discussion of management and utilization of water resources has become one of the most important global issues. Remote sensing data are often used in water body extraction studies and type of remote sensing data used plays an important role in water body extraction. In this study, ability of Landsat satelli...
